Who is Chantilly Soccer Club? We are a 35-year-old soccer club based in Fairfax County and dedicated to promoting soccer excellence for our youth through quality development and competitive opportunities. Our club has a long history of building and attracting successful players that compete at the state, regional, and national levels.
Rising U9 Travel Program We are holding open tryouts for our rising U9 boys and girls travel teams on May 20th and 31st, with walk-in opportunities at other times, to accommodate schedule conflicts. Our objective is to build a strong talent pool, with at least 2 boys and 2 girls teams, that excel and train in a professional Academy-style program. We’re looking for talented and energetic boys and girls that want to excel in the game and desire to play with others with a similar passion for developing their skills and their love of soccer.
Most importantly, we want a group of boys and girls who have fun learning together and want to play the world's best and most popular sport - The Beautiful Game.
What is Our Philosophy? For us, at this age, the game is not about wins and losses, and we look for families that are not singularly focused on that objective. The emphasis, now, needs to be on players developing their enjoyment of the game and technical ability (“foot skills”).
Although our objective is to develop "soccer excellence" and help the players find their own paths to developing the skills necessary to compete at the highest level, we also find reward in helping them develop important life skills – integrity, respect, responsibility, teamwork, and commitment.
Each player comes to us with different experiences and strengths, and it is our training responsibility to help them refine those strong skills and focus attention on developing their emerging areas. We have a very high trainer-to-player ratio (around 1-to-6) that you will not find elsewhere and that ensures your child gets the focused attention he or she needs. We emphasize foot skills development, including ball control, dribbling, and shooting, and introduce age-appropriate physical, psychological and tactical progression. We partner with the region’s leading skills development trainer, Hugo Phan of HP Elite & Beyond, for training and coaching in this age group.
What Should You Expect Out of Travel Soccer? If you are new to travel soccer, it can be intimidating to consider the commitment required for practices, games, time, and money. At this age, there is very little actual “travel” – leagues geographically group teams, so most games are within a 30-minute drive. Longer drives or travel for away tournaments happen as they get older.
Travel soccer is a higher level of play, designed for those children that want to excel in a more competitive environment, which requires commitment from us to your family that we will work hard to give your child the experience and training he or she needs to continue to develop in this game. It requires a commitment from the family to invest the time and effort to leverage our training and coaching.
Our commitment to help your child develop his or her soccer skills and love of the game is for at least a year. We expect a reciprocal commitment from each family to c your child gets the long-term attention needed and helps our teams with the commitment required to play.
What Should You Look for in a Club? Clearly, you have to find the situation that is right for your child and your family. We encourage you to make an informed decision about where your child will play travel soccer, as it is a long-term commitment. It will be an important part of their lives and will affect how they develop and learn to enjoy the game. Important factors to consider include: • Trainer/coach disposition and experience with age group; • Trainer-to-Player ratio; • Development philosophy – focused on individual skills development at this age; • Size of club and attention to your child’s needs; • Location of fields; • Competitiveness at your child’s development level; and • Cost (initial and recurring).
Where Will You be Practicing and Playing? You can expect to have 2 practices per week, probably on Wednesdays and Fridays (subject to field availability), at Poplar Tree Park in Greenbriar and/or Crossfield ES in Oakton.
Fall training starts August 12th (most clubs start later) and lasts until mid-November. Winter training will be at least once weekly, starting after New Year’s. Spring training starts early March, and the season ends in early June.
During the Fall and Spring seasons, there will usually be one league game on weekends, but occasionally, the leagues schedule two.
Depending on your team’s collective interest, you may participate in 2 or 3 tournaments each season, usually on holiday weekends; each tournament will entail 3-4 games. As a team, you will determine which tournaments to participate in.
How Much Will it Cost? Our Academy fees are about $700 each season (Fall & Spring) to cover our professional trainers/coaches, club fees, league fees, and County field fees. Not covered in these fees are one-time costs for uniforms (about $110) and team-specific costs (e.g., team bench & tent) and tournament entrance fees (as tournaments will be determined by the teams). Seasonal fees also cover one day per week of training for 6 weeks during the Winter. Additional indoor league fees may apply for play in the Winter.
